What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Mitutoyo produces high-quality instruments
Mitutoyo is still putting out the great instruments they always have.
How is the body attatched to the head? Anyone have one?
I'm not a fan of gauges like this when you can get a mitutoyo multi anvil micrometer and have a more versatile tool for about the same cost.
Integrated mic quality is decent
mine sound fine and I don’t get any of the sidetone hissing that people are complaining about.
Definitely much better than the average headset mic tho.
Comfortable fit for extended use
They are fairly secure on my head, only issue I would think you would have with using them for vr is they are pretty heavy.
Mitutoyo offers precision and ease of reading
Mitutoyo digital is definitely the go-to for precision and ease of reading.
So easy to use and so repeatable.
Mitutoyo digital is definitely the go-to for precision and ease of reading.
They’re the best IMO.
Good value for a vintage Mitutoyo micrometer
I picked up this Mitutoyo micrometer up at a flee market for $8, it is still sealed in its plastic packaging.
$8 for it, I'd think you got a steal especially since it's still in package.
Durable and long-lasting quality
Yep, I've been using my grandfather's old Starret 0-1 mic from the early 50's for 16 years and it calibrates to the tenth every year.
High pressure and good performance
pressure is high and it's on the bottom of your budget, i think it's currently the best seller on this category and for a good reason.
Easy installation
I think if you're good with tools, it would be straightforward.
You don't even really need tools. It's a screw in lol.
Mitutoyo micrometers are highly recommended for quality
I know a digital one is probably better but I don't trust them.
Pretty much any mitutoyo micrometer would be a good one.
The vernier scale is manageable for precision measurements
The vernier on the mics aren't too bad, in fact that model was my go to at work where I'm often going in the +-.001.
Digital Mitutoyo calipers are quick and easy to read.
quick and easy to read, taking multiple measurements and writing or typing them is just easier when it's already written out.
It's faster to read, the metric/us unit button is VERY handy.
Very glad I got them too, very accurate and repeatability is great.
Imperial/metric unit conversion is convenient.
I can see the Inch/MM button coming in very handy.
the button is handy.
Mitutoyo micrometers are very accurate and provide good repeatability.
I like digital. It helps a lot especially a digital mic.
Holds square during welding
Mine still holds things pretty square when I’m welding.
Great sound quality after adjustments
the difference is so God damn insane. The unusable, worst headset I've ever got turned into the best headset I've ever listened music or played games on.
headset is great. I do not regret buying it at all.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Mic quality compared unfavorably to other brands
I sound far, muffled and like a $2 mic.
Sidestoning feature is problematic
Only really the sidetone bugging me atm, other than that i love the headset.
Lever responsiveness issues
it takes too long for the 3 points to extend out to take measurements, makes it hard to use.
Precision requirements may be unnecessary for home machining
Unless you are doing unusually precise and complicated work at home, chances are resolutions of .0001" is overkill.
Out of calibration after minimal use
Hot take: Mitutoyo micrometers are actually trash.
Sound quality poor out of the box
%99 of the gaming headsets sound quality bad out of the box u need to eq them.
Initial setup required for optimal sound
Using DTS will give me the same effect?
Quality may vary by unit
maybe just a bunch of units made on monday.

Discussion about the best micrometer heads on the market
Best on the market
Discussion about the interchangeability of digital and analog micrometer parts.
I notice, however, how relatively inexpensive the manual analog ones are.
if it's broke it's junk anyway and you need to get your hands dirty to learn.
Discussion about popular shower head options
Provides a relaxing rain shower experience.
Discussion on the necessity of precision tools for hobbyists
I'd rather gouge my eyes out than learning another Vernier scale but I need a micrometer.
Unless youre doing grinding regularly, theres no need to chase this sort of precision.
There is a distinction between resolution and accuracy in measurements.
If you've got a part where a difference of 5 tenths is enough to make it go or no-go, then you sure as shit won't be using calipers to take that measurement, you'll use a micrometer with at least 0.0001" accuracy.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Mention of using headphones while machining for entertainment
The boredom of pulling the quill down to drill holes, then deburring has been greatly reduced!
Using a 'for reference only' sticker for calibration
Just put a "for reference only" sticker on it any you're back in business.
If that sticker is good enough for an ISO audit, it's good enough for me.

Discussion about Starrett micrometer heads being cheaper and versatile
I was also looking at groove micrometers because of their versatility, but they are $$$.
Don’t pay the inflated Brownell’s price, this is really just a starrett 207z can-seam micrometer.
Discussion about where to buy Mitutoyo tools
Msc is where i get my mine, got browne and sharpe and mitutuyo from them.
Cleaning methods for micrometer heads
It’ll be good as new.
is still the same.
The anvils get gummed up.
should free up.
Advice for repairing seized micrometers
Can anyone give advice on fixing my Mitutoyo Micrometer that is seized to the point of being stuck?
Twist it open instead of closed
It looks like the thumb lock is missing.
its been seized up and immovable for a week or so.
Ultrasonic cleaning for dirty micrometers
And if they get dirty, throw them in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about Starrett's quality and customer service
We've been using Starrett heads but their QC seems to have tanked in the last year or so and we scrap almost 3% of our Starrett heads as soon as they're out of the box.
I always rooted for starret, but they're really not making a great case for themselves.
I am actually in talks with Mitutoyo right now but they don't make a small 2" range head.
Discussion about the longevity of precision tools
What is the purpose of the extra thin anvils?
Concerns about authenticity of Mitutoyo products
I'm looking to buy a real mitutoyo caliper, but I'm leery of most resellers as I know there are a lot of forgeries out there.
Cause he wants Mitutoyo calipers, but not Mitutoyo prices.
Yes. However, it is still often the fastest way to get tools unless you have a MSC account with next day shipping.
A bit late when you have spent a whole year sending undelivered birthday cards.
Concern about DIY installation
This does seem like a good choice, especially with the rain shower setting.
Discussion about micrometer repair techniques
Does anyone have any information regarding micrometer repair that can be done in house?
In other words the most basic of repairs... And even then the mic may not be accurate.
Discussion about replacing a micrometer head
The measuring head is struck and wouldn’t unscrew from this position.
Probably get a nice new mitutoyo for 3 bills.
There may be no need to replace anything: just remove the gunk created by people oiling it.
If it's so bent you can't remove it then you might be SOL.
