Snoop's Take

The Pfanner Protos Integral Arborist Helmet in Orange & Grey is a specialized helmet designed for arborists, providing essential protection while working at heights. This helmet is uniquely certified to EN397 and EN 12492 standards, ensuring safety from side and rear impacts, while its adjustable vent flow allows for comfort during varying weather conditions. Consumer sentiment surrounding the Pfanner Protos helmet is largely positive, with many users praising its comfort and adjustability. One user stated, "Protos hands down. It's extremely adjustable and very comfortable." However, some feedback highlighted concerns about the helmet's price in comparison to alternatives like Kask, as well as its tendency to become hot during summer uses. "While I love it, I find it gets very hot in the summer," noted another user, reflecting a common sentiment. Overall, the Pfanner Protos Integral Arborist Helmet is highly recommended for those in the arborist field, especially for its comfort and safety features, despite a few concerns about heat retention and cost.

Discussion about helmet options and comparisons
MkIII review in comments
A couple of people asked about a comparison of the various helmet options in the MkIII kit, so here they are.
Is there enough helmets to not have to use bare heads in the set or are we stuck with the weird helmetless ones?
There are 5 helmets plus a helmet for the Sergeant that takes the plume from the accessories sprue per 5 model sprue.
Discussion about helmet options and visor limitations
I checked out one in the store and felt like it gives wider angle and better ventilation which is one of my problem as I get sweaty and googles gets foggy so quickly.
many had the visor up a lot and were wearing sunglasses, which didn't seem like a great endorsement.
If you bust the helmet in a fall, youre out both the helmet and the goggles
you are restricted to that brand and model of visor. If it breaks/visor gets scratched and the model is out of production, you are shelling out for a new helmet.
Discussion on helmet types and preferences
Looking at buying my own so I don’t have to use the provided one I don’t like
the 'Arborist style' plastic lids are the norm for pretty much every trade in Europe, including foresters and groundies.
Comparisons to other brands and models
I think the Proto is the only one that gives you side impact protection.
Discussion about various helmet brands and their features.
I use the Stihl professional helmets most due to the class 5 earmuffs.
they’re good helmets however the earmuffs can drop off but that’s probably my own fault being too rough with it.
Any mesh fine enough to be seen through is easily cut.
Comparative discussion of helmet features and preferences
Best helmet? I’ve been using a not so great helmet that doesn’t really work with the hearing protection that I have.
I've worn everything but a studson as of now, Petzl with 3m peltors are nice, kask with helberg muffs are nice, but a protos with Sena cast muffs *chef's kiss* it's my favourite combo
Protos is the most comfortable, but least customizable.
Discussion on budget helmet options
Any ANSI rated climbing helmet will meet your needs.
Pros- budget friendly, lightweight, comfortable.
Discussion about Bluetooth headsets compatibility
Should I just buy the online set up?
