What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfortable and safe helmet
It’s absolutely worth it. Quite safe and comfortable.
Well-fitting with boa adjustment
It fits well with the boa in the back and works as intended.
Comfortable for long durations
Fit is a lot more important than function if you're going to wear it for long durations.
Suitable for helicopter operations
Get a good plastic mountaineering helmet, one that you like and that fits you. It's gonna be fine for SAR.
Eh, just get a good mountaineering helmet. If it's anything like our SAR group, it's sufficient. I'm
A good mountaineering or climbing helmet will be fine for majority of SAR applications.
Fits larger head sizes well
Helmets for big heads.
Mammut's helmets work for my 60 cm skull.
Good fit for caving use
Recently got this helmet since the store I went to was sold out of the usual recommendations for caving helmets I've seen here.
any climbing helmet with a thick, single-piece hard-shell is fine for caving durability-wise.
Thank you so much for the info! I guess to clarify the fitment of the helmet on my head is good, but the design of the helmet makes it so that wearing the helmet increases my height by about 1 3/4", but as you said that is normal.
this thing doesn't look too bad at all. As long as it's rated for top and side impacts, I would say you're good to go.
Good for street riding
Wind is almost nothing compared to the dirt helmet.
High-quality outdoor gear
Opinions on Mammut anyone got any honest opinions of Mammut stuff?
I am a big fan of Mammut. I like that they make a lot of their gear for Mountaineering/climbing, so many (most) items have helmet compatible hoods and two way zip.
I like Mammut a lot - it’s high quality.
Comfortable fit
It’s a helmet...? Ummmm it comes in a few different colours... it’s pretty comfy?
Good ventilation
Yes you can put a GoPro and a headlamp on it.

Some helmets can be loud
Agree I've had quieter helmets but is it so easy to put on.
Price may not always reflect safety
My wife crashed in her strada 2 at about 45mph and walked away without so much as a concussion.
Loud wind noise
the wind noise is quite bad. Id recomend some alpine riding earplugs.
Quality issues with mic and paint
It’s still a helmet and it serves its purpose pretty alright it’s just nowhere near worth what they charge.

Lightweight helmet options discussed
It is the lightest you can get and not expensive.
Discussion on helmet types for SAR
you're over thinking it. just buy a helmet. I climbed in a BD half dome for years and it was fine. n
Discussion on various helmet options for skiing and climbing
Looking for a helmet that I can wear on the ascent without overheating.
I've had it a few years now but I would be tempted to look at the Mammut Haute route if buying again.
The meteor looks like the ideal helmet.
Any mountaineering hardshell will have a hood made for accommodating a helmet.
Discussion about new Mammut helmet model
Consider waiting for it.
Discussion on helmet fit and aesthetics
Low profile helmet suggestions I recently purchased the black diamond half dome helmet. It feels very well made but it sits so high and funny on my head it just looks insane.
Climbing helmets are most concerned with protecting the top of your head, since that's where you are most likely to be hit by a falling rock.
Every other helmet sits lower than the half dome :)
I’m using a Petzl Boreo which was recommended to me by a guide at Whitaker and I’m pretty content wi

Details of Valtteri Bottas’ helmet for the Australian Grand Prix
his GF is legit one of the best helmet designers of the grid rn
His gf designs his helmets? Thats awesome, this is probably my favorite I’ve seen since I’ve been following F1
I respect every helmet that doesn't have these "speedy lines" that almost every helmet has (are they dictated by the helmet companies e.g. Bell?). Even if it is nothing crazy this helmet actually feels like it was designed by a human from the ground up and not by an AI.
Recommendation for high-quality helmets
Thanks for your recs!
Get the $100 black diamond one. The super ultralight ones little brother.
I like their reviews
Whatever you buy, make sure it fits your head well!
Comparison with other helmets
I find it more comfortable than the other two, but that is largely a matter of personal preference.

Discussion about using ski helmets for paragliding
There are some air-sports specific helmets, but most of them are basically just ski helmets anyway.
Get a paragliding certified helmet not any old skiing helmet.
Commercial tandem use of helmets
these helmets were being used as passenger helmets for commercial tandem flying.

Price comparisons and value perceptions
Having learned the inadequacy of other gear I got from Amazon, I'm now questioning the helmet too.
A lot of helmets past that point use more carbon fiber and fancier fiberglass techniques that lighten the helmet, make it ever so slightly stronger, and then add in better padding for reduction of noise.
Discussion about helmet sizing for larger heads
Tacticool looking so might be dorky, but if it works it works
it fits big noggins. Smith summit lots up to 68 I think with the boa system.
>can't put anything under it
there's not enough room for anything other than a thin skull cap underneath.
Discussion on head shape for helmet fitting
Fit is far more important than the style.
Fit is by far the most important thing for any helmet.
Spent another hour with the best 3 just wearing them around for 15-20min to find pressure points.
General chatter about other helmet brands
Alrighty awesome thank you very much!! Do you have any other Linda unique looking helmets you’d recommend?
I have a long oval head LS2 Challenger gt fit me really well and it’s light
Wind noise isn’t even that bad I own one and I like it… you’ll get dogged on for having this helmet trust me but who cares.. it’s your money, and it’s both ece and dot certified so. Cheaper for the same certs
Discussion about fit preferences compared to other brands
Mammut sizing seems in the middle.
Quality seems on par or better than Arc and they have a better warranty.
Mention of price discounts on Mammut gear
Love me some Mammut!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on helmet safety standards
Helmets are certified to a standard. Spending more isn’t necessarily an indication of increased protection, unless the standard is increased.
Some manufacturers like Arai, offer a DOT and Snell rated helmet for the US but it technically doesn't qualify for ECE because they don't test the US market helmets to that standard, even though they exceed ECE in their US variants.
And I'm gonna disagree a bit on price/brand name equating safety. Best thing to do is check SHARP helmet ratings, they show different protection levels for each area of the helmet.
Concerns about helmet safety and testing
They don’t even test their helmets. What a joke.
Discussion on climbing helmet safety standards
I’ve never hit my head in a fall, but I’ve seen plenty of videos of people smashing the back of their head against the wall.
I don't think climbing helmet safety is particularly behind. Plenty of people wear helmets, and all the climbing gear standards organizations have standards for helmets.
I feel like what we have is suitable for the level if risk if I'm totally honest. I cycle and climb too and have also never hit my head climbing.
I'm just thankful climbing helmets don't share the price tag of cycling helmets.
Comparison of climbing and cycling helmet safety
Petzl seems to be onto a great idea with the back and side protection offered with their helmets.
