Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Many users own multiple hitches for different purposes
I do swap any smaller trailer I buy to 2"so I don't fuss with the 1 7/8 ball, but I have 3 of those for different trailers with different heights (big boat, small boat, utility).

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Choosing a hitch depends on trailer type and height.
Can anyone recommend something that will cover my needs and last for a long time?
Getting a 2-3 inch drop hitch with an appropriately sized ball to the trailer that you’re pulling.
You dont need anything fancy if the heaviest youre towing is a car/truck.
Users may prefer adjustable hitches for versatility
Quality hitch for Travel trailer and general trailers I have a F-150 5.0 and would like to purchase a travel trailer at some point in the near to mid future.
Different hitches required for various trailer types
May also want to consider a straight hitch with open hole and a couple different size pins in case any trailer has a pin hitch.
The Tri-ball mount strikes me as the most flexible (given it supports 1 7/8” and the other doesn’t), but the channel mount supports greater overall weight and I could always pick up a second mount for the (probably rare?) occasions that I’d need to tow something smaller than 2'.
Ownership of multiple hitches for different purposes is common
Anything that uses a 2" ball or smaller is gonna be puny.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Aftermarket hitches can affect crash dynamics
While the hitch receiver saved my rear end from a possibly destroyed bumper and/or rear tailgate, it makes me question the safety of these and how they change the dynamics of your rear crumple zone.
I fix (and often total out) cars that have trailer hitches that got rear-ended. The trailer hitch won't crumple, so your frame rails do.
