Now as an adult, I realized that just stuffing the sleeping bag into the compression bag is much faster, but I was wondering if this was maybe bad for the sleeping bag.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Lightweight and portable for backpacking
Sleeping pads? I’m just getting into backpacking and want to ask what sleeping pads people recommend.
What I love is the built-in pillow, which adds a bit of extra support without needing to pack more gear.
I do not want to be all layered up inside the bag, but will want to be in a pair of long johns and a long sleeve t-shirt, and be comfortable in the bag.
People should just let people sleep how ever long they like.
Offers good insulation for cold weather
It’s important to remember that every ounce matters - until you can’t sleep because you’re cold or uncomfortable, in which case you wish you had hauled a mattress and box springs out into the wilderness with you.
Yes. Generally, a sleeping bag's temp rating will be the bare minimum you could survive in.
The same exact 30F rated bag was comfortable for me in freezing weather when I was hitting the gym every day, but too cold now when it gets to 40F.
I have a $250 cabellas magnum XL 0 degree bag. You stay warm and cozy as long as your inside it.
Good temperature ratings for varied conditions
the bag rating of 41° means "you won't freeze to death at this temperature, but you'll be pretty damn cold".
The bags by themselves will not keep you comfortably warm in 40 degree lows.

That sums it all up! Very informative!
the colder the potential temps, the more you want to 'overshoot'.
I have switched to quilts & insulated air mattress on a cot from bags and ground pads.
Add about 10 degrees to the bag rating to get a better idea of what will keep you comfortable.

Discussion on sleeping bag storage techniques
Now as an adult, I realized that just stuffing the sleeping bag into the compression bag is much faster, but I was wondering if this was maybe bad for the sleeping bag.
Stuffing is generally viewed as better than rolling as you’re creasing different parts of the fabric each time.
I use an old pillow case, put my sleeping bag in and hang in my closet.
This helps the life of the loft inside the sleeping bag or quilt from constantly being compressed and hopefully keeping the insulating loft "fluffy".
Discussion on sleeping bag washing techniques
I ... I ... I d... I don't..... Oh no 😞
If it's summer I put mine out in the sun after I get home. Flip it halfway through its tanning sessi

I expected the bag to open mid air and slide into the tent...
Too bad the tent wasn't open
Can't he get it any closer than that?
Discussion on other brand comparisons
I've always had mummy bags (since I was a young teen) and currently have an REI woman's one.
All I am missing is a sleeping bag and I’ll complete my set up but goddam are the so expensive 😅.
I used an REI bag for years, but upgraded to a disco because it was more compact and my wife and I could zip them together to stay warm.
Discussion on washing sleeping bags
No text content
Wait, you're not supposed to wash your sleeping bag ? But if it's dirty?!
Down bags can be washed. It depends on the bag. Follow the instructions on the tag for temperate and other settings. Use down wash from Gear Aid, Grangers, Nikwax, or Le Blanc. The key is drying. Some like to include 2-3 tennis balls or dryer balls with the bags to fluff them up. If done properly, the bag should be fine. You can also apply Down Proof waterproofing and protectant on the bag after cleaning.
Do it!! Feels like I got a new bag. Much fluffier! The old down is fabulous. Took about 2 hours on low to completely dry.
Discussion on down sleeping bag care and maintenance
I am amazed at how fluffy the bag is now.
Very pleased with the results.
