Users appreciate its budget-friendly price and performance, with many noting that it is a "super comfy" option that holds up well even in primitive camping conditions. What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Solid option for budget camping
Super comfy, holds up well, and doesn’t feel like a cheap plastic bag.
We typically camp in primitive sites without any neighbors and that require us to hike in a few hundred yards/quarter mile to the site.
Decent performance for side sleepers
switching from sleeping on the ground with double sleeping pads to a 50$ Coleman cot with a sleeping pad on it for the last 3 years has been a total game changer for this side sleeper when camping.
Keeps kids warm on chilly nights
a top quality bag will keep him warm on chilly nights.
I believe they are Coleman 30 degree from Costco.
For non-mobile babies, we had a blanket for the ground for outside so we didn't have to hold them the whole time.
Good quality for budget
I was quite excited to see a zero bag for $80 since that’s a lot more in my budget than a marmot bag or something of the likes.
Got an ALPs 0 degree bag on sale 5 years ago for like $75. Use it for winter camping in the Rockies every season and it’s phenomenons.
Good budget option for occasional camping
Anyone have any experience wit Coleman sleeping bags, as a budget option?
Thanks! It would be used for the once in a blue moon camping trips, and as a safety precaution if we're ever forced from our home.
If you are car camping and taking care of it, I don’t see why not.
Temperature ratings generally met
Huge heavy but by all accounts hits the temp rating
Good warmth retention for children
I didn't think about tying off the bottom, that's a good idea.
I love all of my Kelty gear but I love my Kelty tent the best. I have 3 of their bags and all of the
Temperature rating may be reliable down to 30°F
It will probably be good down to about 30F.
Budget-friendly for families
You could combine the two 20’s for similar warmth. Yeah it’s bulky but it’s way cheaper than buying a specialty bag, and more adaptable.

Some lower quality bags might not hold up to advertised ratings
Some lower quality bags might not hold up to the rating that is advertised.
Temperature ratings may not reflect comfortable temperatures
I have a top-shelf mountaineering sleep system, and I assure you that the temperature rating on all bags is lower than the comfortable temperature is going to be.
Yerp. Slept in -25°F in a -40° bag. I wore only my merino long underwear and I was really warm.
Zipper quality is crucial
Check what kind of zipper it has. A good zipper is more important than temp rating.
Not trustworthy below 50°F
I wouldn’t trust a Coleman bag under 50 degrees
Quality may not support extreme temperatures
5 lbs of filling material??? 😳 so if that were a quality bag it would be good for -30F 😉 I’d guess 40F for a poly bag from Coleman

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Insulation from the ground is key for warmth
they won’t do a lot to insulate you from the ground.
insulation off the ground is key if you are car camping their are loads of options to easily do this, if you are backpacking in, invest in the better bag, and an inflatable ground mat, even an inch of air between you and your bag and the ground is a big deal.
Just make sure you have extra insulation under your bag.
Even a cot is cold causevof the cold air circulating underwater.
Discussion on kids' sleeping bags and their importance for families
We love this piece of gear and it's essential for families who want to get out again after having a child!
Stating that this particular children's bag is 'essential' is hyperbole, and obviously false, but directly advocating for specific brands and gear is a pretty typical activity in this sub.
Comments about adult-sized sleeping bags and alternatives
Do they make adult sized versions of these
I bought one of these at Rei and thought it would be great for warm weather camping.
They actually just came out with adult sizes last month
Yeah, there's wearable sleeping bags like https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6015-165/lite-wearable-sleeping-bag?colour=Foggy+Blue&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaVmz1AUiEBm5tQ3tBZYBXCYuOB_MdTRFOfbwFaaYKRN0ByTwTTITmAaAkmfEALw_wcB

Discussion on how to pack sleeping bags into stuff sacks
This is how they put sleeping bags in the carry bag at the factory No text content
Yeah that spinny fork thingy should come with the sleeping bag, cause that’s usually the only way to get them in the stuff sack.
It’s called a stuff sack for a reason. You’re just meant to stuff the sleeping bag in 🙂
I was talking with a friend recently about how sleeping bag sack design must have improved because they are so easy to stuff these days.
Discussion on alternatives to sleeping bags
Get a quilt instead of a bag. Especially if you roll around a lot.
I bought an Exped Mega Mat 10 before my last camping trip of the season (8 day trip) and it was a game changer.
What do your babies sleep in when camping? Baby too large for bassinet.
A pack-n-play was awesome for us. Folding crib, basically.
Comments on alternatives and experiences with different brands
He's used it (with a liner) in every kind of weather and temperature.
Various methods to enhance sleeping comfort
Wool will keep most of its r value when compressed, especially if you have a descent blanket folded into 2 Or 3 layers.
I have used a yoga mat on an air mattress in freezing.
Much more comfortable than an air mattress if you get a good one.
Alternative methods for using sleeping bags for kids
Most importantly, it kept her warm in very cold temps, and we could easily go camping in 30 degree temps with it.
We got my son a regular adult size bag when he was little and he's still using it.
Discussion about making crafts from sleeping bags
Jacket I made from a sleeping bag No text content
Found this awesome Star Wars sleeping bag and have been wanting to make a puffer for a while! I always love print placement and the scenes on this print are so good
Discussion on zipping sleeping bags together
Sleeping Bags that Zip Together? We are a couple that wants to purchase two new sleeping bags for backpacking.
Most can do this.
My wife and I tried zipping bags and it was not comfortable.
The major brands often have both left & right sided zippers.

Discussion on transitioning kids to adult sized bags
Honestly at that age, I'd transition him into a full sized bag.
Discussion on clothing layering for warmth in sleeping bags
Wearing loose clothing inside your sleeping bag is warmer than wearing ‘thermals’. Let the bag work.
Depends on how cold it is. I've slept in a bag rated at -20f and had to put on (at -10f) damn near every item I've owned just to stay warm overnight.
And I sleep in base layers and stay perfectly warm. Layering even lets me push my sleep system lower than I would without them to save weight.
Comments on the importance of sleeping pads for warmth
Never woke up cold
it’s your sleeping bag and pad that are important
Discussion on maintaining warmth with air mattresses
You are most likely losing heat to the ground and air on your inflatable mattress.
Worked really well and was warm even in the NY mountains.
Definitely use insulated foam mattresses or a few layers of blankets.
Recommendations for specific sleeping bags
It will be good till he is probably 6 or 7 years old.
Discussion about the importance of choosing a sleeping bag for different seasons
Sleeping bag suggestions Hello I am looking for sleeping bag suggestions for my wife & I.
Teton is your budget option great for car camping, for a 3 season get a 20-30 degree bag so in the spring and fall it still keeps you warm.
Comments about the difficulty of finding quality sleeping bags under $100
Under $100 will be a bit difficult.
Suggestions for brands that can be zipped together
Nemo sleeping bags can be zipped together or be separate.
