Tripod for large spotting scopes? I’ve decided to get a Swarovski ATX spotting scope. I’ll likely be getting both a 65mm and 115mm lens and using it for both birding and general wildlife viewing at various National Parks.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about tripod stability for spotting scopes
Tripod for large spotting scopes? I’ve decided to get a Swarovski ATX spotting scope. I’ll likely be getting both a 65mm and 115mm lens and using it for both birding and general wildlife viewing at various National Parks.
Find one that is SOLID. Comfortable height for using the scope while standing, preferably with just the legs, not cranking the head up on the single shaft.
I find there are diminishing returns on tripod stability more so with scopes than cameras. As in, past a certain level of stability, it doesn't matter so much in practice.
I would recommend the FLM CP-34 M4 II tripod with a Camgear Mark 4 head. It's the lightest tripod in its class and also one of the cheapest.
Discussion about tripod options and quality
I spent $100 on a tripod from Amazon and it's total garbage.
These get great reviews and can double for use with your rifle.
I bought a clearance tripod that was 120 marked down from 200. Thing is very solid and has no problem holding my scope.
Vanguard Alta tripods are good. It's a pan head which is better for glassing imo.

Discussion about spotting scope price ranges
Looking to buy a spotting scope. Will be used for sighting in and for hunting.
There isn’t a good spotting scope in that range to be completely honest.
I found a used vortex razor 20-60 x 85 and I love the thing man.
I second this . Had my Vortex for a few years now

If you still need help, please post your budget in $ dollars and lots of details about your intended use.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about limitations of lower-tier spotting scopes for distance
Use a splatter target as indicated and use your rifle optic to see your shots on paper.
Discussion about alternative scopes and their performance
Its better than the Celestron and Vortex for SURE.
A digital camera does require battery while a spotting scope needs no power source at all.
