Snoop's Take

Pyrex Sculpted 3-Pack Glass Mixing Bowls is a versatile kitchen set that comes in three different sizes to handle everything from mixing batters to storing leftovers. With BPA-free lids and tempered glass construction, this product is designed to simplify food prep and storage in any modern kitchen. Community chatter is as diverse as the bowl sizes themselves. One loyal user declares, 'I have a set in dark green, have owned them for 20+ years and they never let me down', underscoring the enduring appeal of Pyrex. Yet, sardonic voices lament easily cracking plastic lids and fading colors in the dishwasher, while others bash the unpredictability of tempered glass shattering or caution against microwave use with older designs. The net sentiment reveals a mix of admiration for the glass quality and frustration with lid durability. Overall, if you value traditional glass durability and can overlook minor flaws in the plastic lids, this Pyrex set is recommended for its category. Its proven performance in meal prep and storage makes it a solid choice for both new cooks and seasoned chefs, despite the recurring gripes from the community.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great value and durability
We've really cut down on washing dishes, especially on Taco Tuesdays.
I have a set in dark green, have owned them for 20+ years and they never let me down
Great value and durable construction
I prefer the weight on the bowls personally because I don't need to worry about accidentally swooshing it somewhere.
Borosilicate design enhances heat safety
if the logo is in uppercase lettering (PYREX) it's made of borosilicate so it's safer kasi the material is heat resistant.
We always use our pyrex pag baked yung ulam like chicken, pasta etc. never had a problem naman 😊

Plastic lids crack easily

I didn’t know this was a thing! Yahoo! Thanks for posting!
I buy them up for cheap at Goodwill (no lids or cracked lids) and order replacement lids online.
Dishwasher use damages colors
Don't put em in the dishwasher if you want the beautiful colours to last!
Do not put them in the dishwasher! Colors will fade very very quickly
Tempered glass can shatter unpredictably
This could have been one of those perfect corner shots that is a one in a million chance to get hit, in which case you have my luck.
Microwave safety concerns for older Pyrex due to metallic paint
The ones that do, unless they’ve been dishwashered to death *very clearly* have metallic paint in the design that you would recognize as such.
But the one you are showing was also made before the days that microwaves became ubiquitous in every kitchen.
Just don’t microwave this
Glass can shatter or explode under heat
Risk of shattering and etching when used with lye water
I’ve been reading that I shouldn’t use Pyrex to mix lye water because over time it could cause it to weaken and shatter.
Pyrex made with borosilicate (generally older stuff) could more easily withstand the wild temperature differences which you can get with lye, than the newer (1998 on) soda-lime glass.
Oh dear. I've been using a Pyrex to mix my lye water ever since I started making soap (a few years ago, though I don't make it too often).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for stainless steel mixing bowls for durability and light weight
STAINLESS STEEL all the freakin way. AND they've withstood beatings by a toddler so....yeah.
My metal mixing bowls aren’t fancy but they’ve held up for +20 years.
I love my stainless steel mixing bowls, mostly for their lighter weight but also for their durability.
I love stainless steel bowls and use them for everything.
Stainless steel bowls are preferred over glass for mixing
For a mixing bowl? Neither, go stainless steel
There's nothing more worrying to me than when I see people use electric hand mixers in glass bowls and beat the hell out of the sides of the glass bowl.
stainless steel is the way to go.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Creative display ideas for stacking mixing bowls
It’s a bit ghetto, but I use a sliced up packing tube to hold them up a bit.
I use these from Etsy, they are excellent.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Glass bowls are heavy and awkward to handle
I got rid of mine and replaced them because glass is really heavy, awkward to stack and retrieve, and difficult to store.
They get very heavy very fast and they can easily get chipped or cracked.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Risk of shattering when exposed to direct heat
My mom picked up the dish with the oven mitts and set it on the tiled countertop (without a trivet, her mistake), and had just enough time to turn her body away to work on something else before the cold countertop and the hot Pyrex reacted, causing the Pyrex to explode from thermal shock, spraying glass shards all over the kitchen.
It basically exploded everywhere and ruined my stuffed peppers because I couldnt risk eating glass…
I can still hear the explosion like it was yesterday and I think about it every time I touch Pyrex.
Isn’t there a danger of the Pyrex shattering though? That would worry me, but I’m a worrier.
Catalog disputes and missing information on Pyrex clear nesting bowls
So they got real shitty and just took it down.
It would be cool if this was updated to all clear pieces post 1986 when they stopped the opaque Pyrex.
