Cheap can be functional too.

Positive Feedback

They're crap. Walmart sells them and they're the pack of choice for homeless people in my city.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Affordable price for a hydration pack
Cheap can be functional too.
Worked fine for travel in a bunch of countries (good size for carry on, held up well, lots of room/pockets).
Durable for casual use
I'm not gentle with it and it's showing no more wear than any other more expensive pack would after going through the same abuse.

Perceived low quality due to association with Walmart
They're crap. Walmart sells them and they're the pack of choice for homeless people in my city.
It's Walmart. They make tons of stuff for cheap, which means the craftsmanship is cheap, and then the price at the end is cheap, but you get what you pay for - cheap.
You will thank yourself for spending just a bit more on a good branded pack.
3L reservoir may feel heavy when filled
For me, a con of the 3L would be the wait and how the pack feels when wearing it with 3L of water.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about preferred hydration pack features
I'm looking to purchase a hydration backpack, and I'm wondering if there are any known brands that are better than others?
I like the platypus big zip. Having the sliding lock on the top makes the bladder easier to clean, fill up, & virtually leak proof.
I would recommend a platypus big zip water bladder, a hose cover if you like(kinda helps the water in the hose not get warm) and if you have to have cold water on the trail drop some ice cubes in it while filling?
I have that too. I find the cleaning of the mouth valve a bid fidgety, but other than that it's a fantastic product.
Discussion about hydration pack features and issues.
How's the water supply? Seems super awkward to me and tough to acess but never tried a hydration hip pack
Makes it a bit shorter and I have to look down/ bend over a bit to drink because I am too lazy to take the tube out of the zipper loop but I still find it way more convenient than a bottle.
I swapped it out with Camelbak’s tube magnet. Works like a charm and no more issues with the tube coming off
Mine stays in place and I have muscle memoried it so I dont have to think about grabbing or replacing it anymore.
Discussion about hydration pack attachment systems.
Only really need to be carrying my camera, some snacks, and a rainjacket.
You'll have a very difficult time finding a backpack to purchase that *doesn't* have some sort of attachment system for a hydration bladder.
Every Osprey, Gregory, REI, etc, brand pack we carried had some sort of method for attachment even if they didn’t come with a bladder.
Nice size, good fit, includes water bladder and rain cover.
Discussion on brand perception and quality vs. price
They are pretty inexpensive.
Thanks for responding, but just the fact that walmart sells them doesn't say much (at least to me).

Discussion about hydration packs and preferences.
What is the absolute best (including coolest looking) hydration pack? when i was on POC's site i peeped their hydration pack which I had never seen.
Have you ever tried running in this pack? I'm looking for something that is good for both
Ideally I'd like something that allows me to hike up to 20 miles at a stretch w/o refill if possible.
I recently got an Osprey hydration pack and it's fantastic. It's durable, comfortable, and holds enough water for long hikes.
Discussion about hydration packs and preferences
What is the best hydration pack? I was wondering the best hydration pack for walking trails usually 10-12km long.
Do you mean just the bladder, or the entire pack?
Discussion on installing hydration systems
Hi there, has anyone managed to properly install a hydration system bladder in the bladder pouch?
If you’re carrying camera gear, I’d recommend putting the bladder in the front dump pocket.
Lay flat open. Feed the hose through the bottom where the water drop symbol is.
Discussion on using hydration systems with various packs
Get a pack you like and put the hydration system in yourself.
I have the Talon 33L, it's very nice, very light.
Discussion about using alcohol in hydration packs
Hydration pack and alcohol I will be floating the Guadeloupe next weekend and want to fill my hydration pack with alcohol and have 2 questions:
You could go with a simple mix of Mio energy + water + vodka. Hydration, energy, and booze all in one.
I've never tried this, so it's purely a guess, but I'm thinking the taste would leach into the pack and you'd be eternally tasting whatever you put in it even if you clean it really well.
My friends tried this a couple years back for cabrewing. They said it lasted the trip, but ate away at the seams and was leaking by the time they got home.

Discussion about hydration pack preferences and sizes.
Most of them have reviews that are all over the place, from 5 stars to this is the leakiest worst tasting piece of garbage ever.
I highly recommend getting 3L instead of smaller. You'll probably want it, and it's barely any bigger.
Thanks I think I will go with 3
The Hydrapak brand has been the most resilient of the brands I've used.
Discussion about hydration pack preferences and benefits
I've been thinking about a hydration pack for easy water storage and access.
I find that I drink more water and more consistently throughout the hike with the hydration pack since it’s right there.
Mention of various pack brands and models
I have the Gregory Zulu 30 and I absolutely love it.
I think I’m a convert.
The Flash series is quite popular
Discussion on hydration pack preferences and recommendations
It fits well and is pretty light but still was large enough to carry all the nutrition I took onto the course in Killington for 8 hours without any issues.
I have had this 2L hydration pack from Teton since last year (have worn it through at least 6 races including the VT Ultra Beast about a month ago) and I love it.
I really like it, it's designed specifically for running so not too sloshy and it has a couple quick access pockets for gels etc.
So my second choice would be a Nathan HPL 020 followed by a Camelbak Marathoner.
Discussion about hydration packs and security regulations at events.
Hydration Packs Are they actually as strict at the gate with hydration packs as they're making it sound?
There were a few posts today Ultra answered regarding camelback / hydration packs.
The Camelbak Rogue is a great example of a model we accept.
i did the same, last year i managed to accidentally sneak in my camelbak, with out 1.5L of coconut circoc...
Discussion about price comparisons for hydration packs
Best value hydration pack? Looking to buy one soon...What's your favorite hydration pack for the price?
I got my CamelBak on Sierra Trading Post for something approaching $30 after email coupons.
Looks like that's last year's model, so a good price cut, but if it doesn't match what you need it for, it still isn't a good deal, eh?
I use it mainly for backpacking, i just hook it on the outside of my pack. Its easy to remove and fill, and its great becasue I don't have to take off my pack to get a drink.
Discussion about hydration pack preferences
Can someone recommend me a hydration back pack they have used and it helped?
Almost any camelbak will do.
DolfinPack. They are made for extreme sports, mine and my gf’s has held up through a trifecta which included the Killington Beast.
I settled on the 1.5L INOXTO Hydration Vest Backpack. It fit my food/supplements well (w/extra), adjusts well to stay snug so it doesn't bounce around while not being uncomfortable, and doesn't interfere with obstacles imo.
Hydration pack fit issues with different reservoirs
It seems like they changed the hydration sleeve in the new model and it is very tight, especially at the top.
I've been happy with the Osprey Hydraulics 2.5 liter. It fits in the Osprey Manta 24 easily enough and i could prob squeeze in a 3L bag, just.
The Talon 33 is similar. I struggle with putting my 3 liter Gregory or the 3 liter Platypus bladders into it.
They fit perfectly in my Osprey Talon 22 water storage.
Preference for 2L vs 3L reservoirs based on hiking needs
So given that, I'm looking for a good hydration reservoir (which the pack has a dedicated sleeve for).
I’d buy the 3 liter. You can always only put 2 liters or less in it.
The extra litter may save your life.
I just hate to use the bladder for treating water, that's another reason I may carry a backup bottle.
Discussion about preferences for 3L vs 2L reservoirs
I'm looking for a 3L reservoir.
I use a Gregory bladder and really like it.

Mention of cleaning difficulties with hydration products
Many packs will come with a bladder and drinking tube, but you can also buy these in various sizes quite easily.
