Goes in and out with a simple pull.
Your Outback is made specifically to hold a Lowrance fish finder, you're in luck. Other brands may require some tweaking but Lowrance are plug and play.
This mounts securely on the Outback side plates, holds the unit without the "drooping" issues you sometimes get with ball mounts due to the inability to tighten them enough. It also pops on an off in a second, and allows you to adjust rotation without disconnecting the unit.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on depth mapping and data export features in fish finders
Hummingbird calls it auto chart and Garmin calls it QuickDraw contours.
Lowrance calls it Genesis Live.
I'd like to be able to save the maps, or just the data (I'll convert it to a file that's readable in google earth with a script), so I don't have to be dependent on the fish finder to access the map.
The fishfinder records the depth as you pass over an area and shows the contour map on the head unit.
Understanding surface noise and returns
The returns at the surface are just noise - turbulence from the wind and waves on the water.
This is such an in-depth (no applause please, it was purely coincidental) response.
I have some cool photos of my sounder thinking a whale was the bottom.
Emphasis on depth and bottom contour features
It also really helps to know depth, bottom contour/composition, and water temp.
I also ice fish so I am completely reliant on getting that depth and bottom contour Information.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Debate on the value and upgrade of boat electronics
Upgrade if you got the extra money, if not it doesn't matter, the fish don't care how much electronics you have.
P.s. DONT FORGET YR DRAIN PLUG!!!
I will admit I’m not very hip to the electronics.
I like the Garmin, i have two Garmin striker 9 SV.
Fish finder feature and brand comparisons
if he had to do it over he'd get Garmin as they just have better features.
Birds have good side imaging, and the best [but pricy] maps (Lakemaster).
I went over where an old bridge use to be that's now 20 feet under water and could see old beams sticking off the bridge supports and where they were scattered.
the “chart plotter” interface is absolute garbage.
Budget fish finder comparisons
I'd say that the difference between no fishfinder and a cheap one is bigger than between a cheap and an expensive one.
it helps with depth, temps, and bottom topography and other things that help with fishing other than marking suspended things such a as fish.
Go with the striker it is the best unit you are going to find in that price range.
The Garmin Striker is a solid pick.
Price and feature trade-offs in fish finders
I hated my Lowrance Hook Reveal 7.
I love my HB Helix 7 Mega SI G3.
fast forward 5 yrs and I am now running a garmin 93sv on my kayak, it is nice to have more screen for when I run more than one option.
I have the same one and love it 👍.
Kayak fish finder deals and recommendations
works really well in kayak for me.
$100 is a great price, I'm only seeing them at $280.
Yeah, they were on clearance in my area, I actually picked up 2.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Unusual deep‐sea fish sightings and discussions
Don’t deep sea fish wash to shore all the time?
You havent lived until you’ve needed 6 people to move a dead 20 foot long oarfish.
High quality marine fish microscopy appreciation
This is incredible!
Very high quality pictures thank you!
Transducer troubleshooting and durability concerns
transducer connection good ...not made up, corroded, etc ?
Try a different transducer, if you can borrow one or something.
