Modern backpacking through Europe starter pack

Thanks! I just ordered one.
I successfully managed to carry on only despite needing 2 completely different sets of clothing and work gear.
88lb down in one year. I challenged myself with the hardest 2 night backpacking trip I've ever done.
Includes a hip belt for weight distribution
Yep! It's tucked away but it does indeed have a padded hip belt

60L looks so big but I guess I will be carrying a tent, and everything else needed so maybe I need the room?
Yes, you'll need the room.
60 gives you more freedom.
Most people when they first start out won't have a bunch of ultralight gear which will pack smaller and is lighter but is also significantly more expensive.
Efficient packing advice
less weight is more fun
It’s always fun to ask thru hikers how much shit they threw away, mailed back, or otherwise modified to carry less weight.
And the damage a badly packed bag can do is nasty and long term.
I think the point of the light items tip is that the very bottom of your pack is in fact below your body core.

Can cause discomfort if packed incorrectly
This would cause discomfort and pain after an extended period of time.
Improper packing can cause discomfort
Was the damage from one day hiking or did you carry your incorrect packed backpack through the whole month?
I must have had some pre existing damage or something and the improperly packed bag was the straw that broke the camels back.

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Common first-time backpacking experiences
First time packing a backpack for a 2 day trip starting tomorrow, anything missing?
Yeah, my ideas about what goes into a backpacking kit changed very quickly after one trip.
It's more like a long picnic. After a few trips out you will be dropping a LOT of the gear you have packed now.
Take what you like and discard what you know you won’t eat. Also depending on how long of a hike you’re going to do in 2 days.
Preference for easy access to snacks while camping
Food at top, I’m not digging for my snacks. That’s the whole reason you camp.
Beginners often pack bulky and heavy items
Beginner gear tends to be bulkier so 60L is a good idea, especially with a tent.
Challenges of first-time packing
I recognize I need to slim the bag’s contents down.
Don't go above 60L in general, rather learn to pack light and reduce your needs so it all fits into a smaller pack.
Tips for minimizing backpack weight
They also have gear recommendations and packlists
If you slip and it hits a rock that could easily end quite badly.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Exploring various backpack brands and experiences
My cousin has an Osprey bag, although he hasn't had the chance to use it lately since he's gotten busy with raising his new family.
A bag can be super well constructed, but if it doesn’t fit right, you’re going to be miserable.
I ended up with a Gregory, which has been excellent. I bought it because it didn't crowd/put pressure on my scalenes.
Osprey all the way
