What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great for packed trails and ice
Once it becomes more work to lift our feet up and out of the now than it is to walk in a snowshoe, we just switch over.
Traction is your friend when it's slippery.
Provides excellent traction on slippery surfaces
They seem like they'd be more comfortable, but I'm worried about having enough grip compared to my cleats
Offers stability without the bulk of snowshoes
No annoying clacking. Gait closer to normal.
Excellent traction on ice and snow
Cleat help! I have a choice between 3 different cleats, if you have played in them which traction do you think is better?
I’ve used the Alpha Menaces for several years now. Love them.
Lightweight and easy to use
I think the main reason is because the studs are longer and have sharp angles, but seems like the Vapor Edge has the same traits and might be even better based on reviews I’ve seen.
Great for outdoor activities
It's clear the Crossclimate 2s handle significantly better in the snow, which we do get a lot of, but the roads here are well maintained.
The longer term durability of the Defender 2's was what ultimately helped w/ my decision.
Provides excellent traction on ice and snow
I'd expect braking distances to be around double that of a set of dedicated winter tires, ice could easily send you into a ditch.
Lightweight and easy to put on/off
For light snow they can be OK if you are careful but I would look for a better tire for snow really.
Effective for kids on ice
These were a game changer, he had so much fun on the ice today.
I was going to go out last weekend but didn't for that exact reason.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Comparison of traction cleats vs snowshoes
If your foot sinks into the snow then snowshoes, otherwise crampons.
Yup, simple as that. Crampons when you need the grip but don't need the flotation that snowshoes provide.
Snowshoes are shit on traverses and you can end up falling, whereas microspikes will give you traction, but you'll sink in.
Snowshoes also suck at traverses, so you point your feet straight down and hope your range of motion is enough to cover slope inclination.
