Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on material options for baby feeding utensils
i’ve been using corelle with my 4yo since he was about 6 months and he’s never broken a dish, even when he throws them! I’ve broken 1 in 5 years and it was a bit of a mess but nothing that would make me change my mind about corelle.
I used to have the avocado green floral border ones and learned that it could have lead! Ditched those for some newer all white ones.
I love their little divided plates. I don't serve baby (well, now 14m) on them directly, but i put the food on the plate and then dole it out on the tray.
i haven’t seen the divided plates, thanks for the tip!
Discussion on toddler utensil preferences
What do I need to know about toddler utensils? My color changing Munchkin spoons aren't cutting it anymore now that my baby is moving into toddlerhood.
Honestly, it probably depends on the kid. Like most baby stuff, there are a lot of gimmicks out there for toddler utensils.
My son did use forks for a bit and then stopped but i still offer it with his meals.
We give them utensils (mini metal versions of what adults use, just smaller) starting at 12 months.
Discussion about children's utensil usage preferences.
I always offer a fork or spoon (whichever is appropriate for the food he is eating) but, excepting yogurt and a rare occasion of giving them a go for other foods, he always defaults to his hands.
Like legit cheer lol. Worked for us.
being hardcore about utensils is just a hill we decided we weren’t going to die on, and no professional with authority on the topic has given us any flack for it.
She’ll go for our utensils more often than not — and she’s really trying to emulate what we’re doing.
Discussion about alternative stainless steel flatware options
who knows? Anyways, just a heads up for anyone considering them.
Ironically, even the 18/8 Yamazaki flatware does not rust like the cheaper stuff does.
Discussion on dining utensil preferences and experiences.
Can we talk the real life Forks, WA? Anyone in this thread from there? Or has anyone visited? What’s it like? I wanna hear about it through the eyes of a Twilight fan!
I only stayed there for a night while on a road trip through western Washington, so I'm sure that other people on here who have been here more often/live there will have much more valuable insight. But I'll give my 2 cents anyway because I never stopped thinking about it. It was absolutely beautiful.
Never been to Forks myself, but have been elsewhere in Washington, and my goodness, beautiful is an understatement.
Thank you for this description as its just how I imagine it. Heck I envisioned that cup of coffee in the rain 🌧 also the blade runner reference was *chefs kiss*.

This is good advice, it's also perfect for making guacamole
Just added that to my wishlist. Big thanks man! That's gonna be super useful later

Comments on the challenges of gift-giving during busy months.
Interesting! So, is mother's day in the same month for you?
There are at least 3 or 4 birthdays before the end of February for us, and most of them in the same week.
And September in Australia!
We try to avoid plastic. Stainless is fine but the trays are giving prison and they can’t be microwaved.
Discussion about restaurant supply stores for flatware
Mine were very affordable and will likely outlast me.
Way more durable stuff, way fewer stupid designs *nobody* wants to choose through, easy to get replacement pieces, any very affordable.
They’re meant to be used day in and day out for years on end. They’re not going bad unless I do something stupid with them, like accidentally shred them in the garbage disposal.
General discussion about affordability and quality of flatware
So many horror stories about people having rusty knives after 3 months.
I must ask, how does one so often lose a spoon?
This is such a good idea! wish I had seen this when shopping for mine.
most Thai places have the same set which is good, sturdy, and inexpensive.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Comments on the durability of flatware over time
Still shiny and no bending - you can scoop ice cream with the teaspoons without bending them.
we have never heard of any of it rusting
Comments on the durability of flatware
I honestly don't see why buying flatware is a serious problem for anyone.
My parents have had the same sams club flatware for atleast 20 years?
