Snoop's Take

The BulletProof Hitches 2.5" Weight Distribution Shank is a robust towing solution designed for vehicles equipped with 2.5" receivers. With a rating of 22,000 lbs trailer weight and 3,000 lbs tongue weight, this hitch shank offers enhanced stability and safety for a wide range of towing needs, especially for modified vehicles. Consumer feedback highlights the product's wide compatibility with different weight distribution systems, with one user noting, "Every WDH system I’ve found so far is for a 2” receiver, and I’d really rather not use an adapter." Users appreciate the flexibility it offers for towing various vehicles and the importance of adjustable height for safe towing, underscoring that "the safest and most efficient way to tow a trailer is as close to level as possible when loaded." However, some concerns have been raised about the hitch's strength for heavier trailers and the potential need for additional adapters. Overall, the BulletProof Hitches 2.5" Weight Distribution Shank is well-regarded for its performance and versatility in the towing category. While it faces criticism regarding strength for very heavy loads, the general consensus leans toward a recommendation for those seeking a reliable weight distribution solution for their towing needs.

Positive Feedback

Yeah, I don't know the weight of your TT, but I would not trust this set up for towing, other than maybe moving it around your yard...

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Wide compatibility with 2.5" receivers
Every WDH system I’ve found so far is for a 2” receiver, and I’d really rather not use an adapter.
I like the flexibility, too.
Agreed.
I think it came out a little more expensive though.
Flexibility for towing with different vehicles
Otherwise, I love mine for its convenience.
Adjustable drop height for different vehicle setups
I use a 8 in drop Bulletproof hitch. Currently set to 6 in drop for my weekly needs.
I run the B&W manly unless I’m pulling the camper then a weight distribution hitch with no issues on 35’s.
Improves towing stability with weight distribution
A WDH put the weight back on the front axle, which offers benefits like safer handling.
Importance of adjustable height for safe towing
Is leveling the trailer tied to preference or safety?
The safest and most efficient way to tow a trailer is as close to level as possible when loaded.
trailer should definitely be as level as possible.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Concerns about hitch strength and suitability for heavy trailers
Yeah, I don't know the weight of your TT, but I would not trust this set up for towing, other than maybe moving it around your yard...
I didn’t see the hollow tube at first but yes this needs to be changed.
Payload of 1350# isn't gonna go very far.
Mfg tongue weights are all lies.
Concerns about the need for adapters
I couldn't stand the adapter... I ended up buying a new shank from equalizer for about $200... It works great.
Potentially higher cost for piecing together the setup
It’s worth every penny to me so far.
Concerns about the hitch's strength for heavy loads
Keep in mind PW suspension is soft and will sag quite a bit with weight on the ball.
Concerns about price compared to multiple hitches
Anyone use BulletProof Hitch before? Thoughts?
For what these cost you can usually buy like 2 or 3 hitches with both size balls and still be money ahead.
Concerns about hitch strength for heavy trailers
We've since switched to the Anderson hitch and have been using it for 2 years now. We love it, way lighter, way easier to set up, and way less noisy.
I like the thought but it only lasted one trip.
Concerns about the necessity of using a WDH on 3/4 ton vehicles
I've determined that even if I upgrade to a 3/4T, it makes sense to still use a WDH/sway.

even if you don't _need_ it, it won't hurt.

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on preferences for different hitch brands
I'm really liking the B&W tow and stow.
General discussion about trailer sizes for families
Trust me, I love camping. Going too big (unless you are flexing or just tailgating) is a mistake.
Discussion on alternatives like Gen-Y hitches
I went gen-y and have always been happy with it.
Discussion on various factors influencing hitch choice
for normal duty towing it is probably a good hitch if adjusted correctly and greased.
Experiences with different truck models and their towing capabilities
Much more enjoyable towing experience, especially in the wind and over PNW mountain passes.
Debate about hitch installation and adjustment
If I hired someone with an angle grinder or a good metal saw, I could I cut off some of the circled portion of the hitch to give us higher ground clearance?
If you paid to have it set up by a service center, I think I would take it back and tell them your concerns with it and see if another tech can set it up for you differently.
I’m just concerned about the rare instance where I’m pulling into a bumpy camp site or driving over the lip of a steep driveway.
If it's any consolation, your trailer jack will probably scrape before the hitch does though.
Discussion on seeking alternative adjustable drop hitches with sway control
Any suggestions for a 2.5” shank adjustable drop hitch with a tab for a sway control ball?
I think the GenY hitch has a sway control setup as well.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on hitch durability compared to competitors
The Gen Y and Bulletproof definitely appear to be "beefier" than the B&W.
I've had the B&W since 2019 and pulled every shape and size trailer you can imagine without a single issue.
I’ve pulled 30’ car haulers up and down the west coast with no issues.
Usually these hollow ones are for light duty trailers.
Preference for B&W hitches due to aesthetics and durability
B&Ws have a cleaner look.
The rust resistance has been really remarkable.
