Snoop's Take

The BABELIO Metal Baby Gate Dog Gate is designed to provide a secure barrier for pets and toddlers, preventing them from accessing dangerous areas like stairs and doorways. With an easy installation process that requires no tools or drilling, this gate is a practical solution for parents and pet owners alike. Consumer feedback highlights the simplicity of installation, with many users noting, "Much easier to install, take down, or move to another location." However, there are concerns about its security, particularly for active toddlers, as one parent mentioned, "My 18 month old toddlers figured out that one of them could pull the flap out and the other could crawl through the opening and go up the stairs." Despite these concerns, many appreciate the gate's design and functionality. Overall, while the BABELIO Metal Baby Gate offers easy installation and convenience, potential buyers should consider the security aspects for active toddlers. It may be suitable for those with older children or less active pets, but extra measures may be necessary for more adventurous toddlers.

Much easier to install, take down, or move to another location.
The gate is perfect and doesn’t require drilling and the wall nanny protects the walls from scuffs.

Flaws in security for active toddlers
My 18 month old toddlers figured out that one of them could pull the flap out and the other could crawl through the opening and go up the stairs.
They figured out how to pull open the flap at the bottom almost immediately, but when I added the little piece of wood to block that at the bottom they weren't able to get through it until 6 months ago.
Should’ve put the lock on stair side, harder for kids to open and easy as you come up.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about adding additional security features
You didn’t mention if this is to keep the baby from opening, but if that’s your target, I’d probably go for one of those cabinet door hasps.
You may want to think of some sort of latch mechanism, once babies get to the crawling age they will push on and drag on things in ways you may not expect.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about installation challenges at the top of stairs
Any ideas on how to install a baby gate at the top of some stairs where one wall has barely any clearance from the edge of the landing.
I'd recommend one that screws into the wall for the top of the stairs. screw it right through the trim.
Remove that section of trim or 2 small sections for the mount.
Mount one side to trim, other to the wall… don’t know why you’d need 6” to install it.
