Snoop's Take

Sensodyne Repair and Protect Whitening Toothpaste is a specialized oral care product aimed at reducing sensitivity while providing whitening and cavity prevention in a pack of four 3.4 oz tubes. It not only cleans but also builds a protective layer inside sensitive tooth tubules. Consumers are split in their reviews: while many praise it for sustained sensitivity relief—as one reviewer noted, 'I think you can use it indefinitely'—others are quick to gripe about drastic changes, with one exclaiming, 'the paste is blue, tastes different, and the quality has nosedived.' The debate intensifies around the formula changes, with several users reporting increased sensitivity and side effects after switching to the whitening version. Overall, despite the entrenched fan base leveraging its sensitivity relief, the conflicting feedback on formula changes makes it a product recommended primarily for users with established sensitivities, though newcomers may want to proceed with caution.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Longtime users found relief with previous formulas
Like, you're the brand that's all about enamel and gum health ....making whitening toothpaste?
Not only did the problem tooth become more sensitive, but others did as well.
Can be used indefinitely for sensitive teeth
your dentist is misinformed...
I think you can use it indefinitely.
I recommend it to my patients all the time.
I'm a dentist and I use it as my only toothpaste.
Sensodyne helps with sensitivity
Sensodyne has helped my sensitivity a lot but any whitening toothpaste makes my teeth really sensitive.
Reduces dental sensitivity when used regularly
It does show a decrease in dental sensitivity if used twice a day.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Change in color and formula negatively affects quality
the paste is blue, tastes different, and the quality has nosedived.
it seems to have definitely lost the low abrasive quality it had before and is now just a gel.
I do not like the taste of the blue one.
The blue makes my teeth sensitive.
New toothpaste color causes allergic reactions
I can’t use coloured toiletries because of allergies and coloured toothpaste will make my tongue swell sonething awful.
Causes dry mouth.
Although it helps with sensitivity, I think it's making my mouth dry.
Medical needs require specific toothpaste
I have to have sensodyne toothpaste to atleast attempt to help and delay to inevitable decay and breaking of my teeth.
Causes dry mouth
I noticed over the last few weeks that the inside of my mouth has been sore, red and swollen along my tongue, cheeks and inside of my lip area and dealing with really dry mouth.
I've noticed that I get fewer mouth sores now that I've switched to a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
Allergic reactions to product
I just confirmed my Sensodyne (repair & protect) allergy.
I just now realized it all started when I started using synsodine specifically the whitening one.
Increased tooth sensitivity after use
There aren't enough words for how much I regret that decision, because I've gone from having no sensitivity issues what so ever to having serious pain and sensitivity after using this toothpaste for a grand total of a week.
I think I'll switch back to the regular toothpaste and try and see how that works.
Anything can make my teeth just completely ache!
I want to throw the US version away, but haven’t yet since it’s rather expensive.
Recent formula changes have caused pain
Hooooollly crap -I had to keep my mouth shut as air sent mouth in terrible pain.
I pushed through the pain and after maybe 1-2ish weeks the 'aching' kinda just stop so I'm like 'huh... what now?'
Causes tongue irritation and blisters
I've noticed my tongue to feel burnt and it has a couple small blisters.
Contains SLS which may irritate some users
The SLS inactive ingredient in the paste will cause irritation like you have described.
Increased tooth sensitivity after using whitening formula
I can’t even drink room temperature water without extreme sensitivity anymore.
Even though it says it's for sensitive teeth, the products in whitening toothpaste are really abrasive and contribute to hot/cold temp sensitivity.
Whitening toothpaste causes more sensitivity
I would switch to a non-whitening formula, but I would also recommend choosing one with potassium nitrate.

Discussion of dental health challenges and toothpaste recommendations
I say use sesodyne. Your health is worth something too.
If it wasn’t for prescription level fluoride toothpaste, I can’t imagine how bad it would be.
I think that this is a case of where I'd listen to what your dentist and doctor say and use exactly what they recommend.
Comparison of Sensodyne Repair and Protect with other Sensodyne products
What about the regular sensodyne pronamel?
Discussion about the original formulation of Sensodyne Repair and Protect toothpaste
What are good alternatives? I live in Canada and helping someone find a toothpaste which has sort of disappeared since the pandemic.
It's mostly marketing nonsense.

Does bite have flouride though?
Debate over alternatives to Sensodyne toothpaste.
Biotene paste or wet toothbrush followed by Biotene mouthwash.
Closys is great for anyone sensitive to sulfate and has a really good mouthwash.
I use biotene toothpaste.
If you’re experiencing a significant increase in sensitivity, you need to see a dentist.
Seeking alternatives for toothpaste due to allergy
Just trying to find relief and comfort until my next appointment in a month.
Discussion about flavor preferences for sensitivity toothpaste
Is there any sensodyne or enamel-building toothpaste that isn't mint flavored?
I would rather not have anything strong like mint or cinnamon.
Some toothpastes have gentler flavors then other so it might mean you get your hands on some sensodyne samples of different flavors and try them out.
You could try a kids' toothpaste with stannous fluoride which also helps prevent sensitivity. 3M E
Inquiry about the importance of fluoride in toothpaste
why is fluoride so important, and how does enamel-building toothpaste work?
i dont get why "enamel is lost forever" (or what is cavitation?)
Discussion on price comparisons between Sensodyne and other brands
About half the price of the sensodyne on offer so thought it helps to know.
Suggestions for application techniques of sensitive toothpaste
You don't want to wash it off right away, you want to rub it in and let it seep in.
Confusion about recommended usage duration
My dentist says Sensodyne should not be used for more than 3 months. I am confused because advertisements and the packaging suggests it could be used as a regular toothpaste.
Widespread availability of Sensodyne
You go to the bathroom you find sensodyne, you go to the bedrooms you find it. It's starting to hunt my life!
User recommendation for alternatives to Sensodyne
I prefer it over sensodyne, even tho the paradontax doesn’t taste all that good, it does a good job.
You just want the ingredient potassium nitrate for sensitivity relief.
Consider switching to non-whitening toothpaste
Maybe switch back to the crest toothpaste to see if the sensitivity improves.
Discussion about availability of Sensodyne Repair and Protect toothpaste
This toothpaste with Novamin is the only one that helps and I’m not sure what to do!!
We are very sorry to hear of the difficulty you have been experiencing whilst trying to locate stocks of this product.
I see London Drugs has it.
Discussion about alternatives to fluoride-based toothpastes
Have you considered a toothpaste that uses hydroxyapatite? It seems like it's just as effective if not more than fluoride-based toothpastes at repairing enamel and reducing sensitivity.
Inquiry about the effectiveness of non-fluoride options like hydroxyapatite
Thankyou for the information.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Debate over which Sensodyne toothpaste variant is best.
I see like 10 different ones.
The Pronamel is the best for my teeth, and even whitens them without it being a “whitening” toothpaste.
Repair and protect (the one sold outside the US with Novamin as a key ingredient.
If you want a gentle whitening toothpaste I find that Lumineux is the best!
Users express disappointment over new product changes
I would think that would be on the box to let you know.
Discussion about sensitivity issues when not using Sensodyne
every time I go longer than a week without using it my teeth get so sensitive that cold water hurts to drink.
https://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/brands/sensodyne/
If you can’t find anything (affordable) you could use a vegan toothpaste part of the time and Sensodyne as needed.
Debate on effectiveness of active ingredients in sensitive toothpastes
Are all sensitive toothpastes the same or is Sensodyne really the best?
There's nothing special about sensodyne.
The active ingredient is what is important.
Most are correct in that Potassium Nitrate is the most common active ingredient.
Discussion about personal experiences with other toothpaste brands
Hmm, it looks like other toothpastes I've used had sodium lauryl sulfate, and I've never had an issue.
Discussion about whether whitening effects weaken enamel
Will the whitening effect weaken my enamel?
Use it gently as it's a medium abrasive toothpaste and you don't want to brush away your enamel.
