Snoop's Take

The Rough Country Heavy Duty Replacement Ball Joints are designed specifically for 2007-2018 Jeep Wranglers, providing a robust solution for those needing to replace worn-out ball joints. This set includes two upper and two lower ball joints, made with durable chromoly ball studs and equipped with polyurethane dust boots, ensuring longevity and performance under tough conditions. Consumer sentiment around these ball joints is mixed, with many praising their appealing design and robust build quality. One user noted, "the RC ones looked nicer and beefier," indicating a positive reception regarding aesthetics and perceived durability. However, some users experienced installation challenges, suggesting alternatives like Spicer ball joints for better longevity, with one stating, "I strongly recommend installing Spicer 706944X ball joints." Overall, while the Rough Country ball joints offer solid design and performance features, potential installation issues may lead buyers to consider OEM options. Therefore, they may be suitable for those comfortable with installation and looking for a visually appealing upgrade, but caution is advised for those seeking ease of installation and long-term reliability.

Agreed, go with OEM ones from Spicer. Avoid using knurled ones because you can cause irreversible changes that won’t allow you to hold back.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on stock vs aftermarket parts.
I've learned that lesson by buying parts from amazon with a random brand name on other vehicles haha.
Discussion on preference for different brands.
I'd use acdelco over Detroit axle any day.
Dorman makes a "Rugged Duty" line of chassis that is bulletproof.
Discussion about replacement parts for lift kits.
Any one have the 6.5 inch rough country lift?
RC doesnt sell bushings by themselves, I believe the arms just have to be replaced.
Call rough country and they will give you a moog number.
They surely use a standard size.
Discussion on aesthetic vs functional lifts
If you plan on just lifting it for aesthetics, go for it.
Discussion on upgrading to better quality aftermarket parts
Look at either better quality aftermarket ball joints or aftermarket longer control arm to get rid of the wheel spacers.
The last shop said they put moog joints in to long term fix it.

Discussion about preferred brands for ball joints.
Best ball joints for 2016 JKUR State inspection guy said it was fine right now, but will need to be addressed soon.
the best might just be the new ones from metalcloak.
Teraflex are good.
If you want the absolute best, it's Rare Parts.
Discussion about preferred brands for ball joints
I’ve purchased the rough country HD ball joints and was thinking of installing this weekend.
Questions on maintenance practices like greasing.
How often is he greasing the front end?
Discussion about pricing for ball joints and steering kits.
$1606 for 'ball joints & steering kit' with labor.
540 seems high for ball joints, but i'm seeing heavy duty jobs on quadratec for 308, so high but not silly.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Installation challenges with parts alignment
Everything came off nice and easy, not sure why it's all so tight now.
If it did, that's probably your issue.
Things got a lot easier when I lifted the entire front end and disconnected both sway bar links 😅
Pictures also speak 1000 words.
Discussion about the reliability of stock vs aftermarket ball joints.
Rough country is better than NOTHING! Their stuff is junk and the price reflects that.
go with spicer. Ball joint deletes are for strength, but have you ever heard of someone breaking a ball joint?
Just did mine with moog greasable upper and lowers, then less than 10,000 later they got swapped with Dana/spicer from rock auto.
Wish I would have bought Dana/spicer.
Concerns about the effect of wheel spacers
I can only think its the spacers causing extra strain, like with old minis people used to whack the 13" wheels and half inch spacers it would knock out wheel bearings quicker than usual.
