Discussion on the effects of pepper on tank biocycle
You need a good nitrate/nitrite/ammonia balance, which is created by bacteria that take time to colonize.
While it may have produced some ammonia while being in there for 48 hours, as long as the tank isn't tiny, I don't imagine it could have overloaded the bacteria too much in that time.
Unexpected research on fish care and tank chemistry

Impressive. Thanks for the reads, TIL it's okay to spill some chilli extract in my aquarium from time to time.

Discussion about using submersible pumps for aquarium water changes
I’m sick of dumping buckets into the aquarium.
Look for one that has its intake on the bottom so it can get the majority of the water out of the bucket.
I’ve attached my pump hose to a chip clip to secure it to the top of the tank.
I use a python hose and water comes directly from my tap.
