Jump rope for cardio? Is this a good "routine"? I usually jump rope until I start getting tired in my legs or until I get sweat in my eye (which it ends up being about a minute) for about 10x.
Absolutely. My favorite form of cardio is jump rope. That's actually how I got into fitness: I wanted to lose weight and just starting skipping everyday for 10 minutes.
Skipped endlessly for years when I was a competing boxer. It's great for general conditioning and you can tailor it to whatever you need, just make a real effort to make your movements as small as possible when skipping normally.

But my biggest problem with these ropes are low DURABILITY I jump rope 5-7 days a week and most of them are ready snap by the handle within 2 weeks!
There are a lot of recommendations for speed ropes but I enjoy PVC like the one you have.

What ground can you jump rope on? Can you do it on grass or concrete ? Or does it need a good rubber floor?
Concrete or a rubber gym floor is best in my experience. Soft surfaces may absorb shock from the landing, but something like grass can be slippery, catch on the rope and generally increases the risk of falling on your face (yup, done that.) If you're concerned about jumping on a hard surface, throw a yoga mat down. That can help absorb the strikes from your feet.
Variety in jump rope types preferred by users
Depends on the day and what I'm training after my cardio session. I like to switch between weighted and speed rope.
From my experience, you don't have to get too fancy. I use a [Survival & Cross speed rope] these days. Good quality, lightweight, and very affordable.
Preference for weighted and speed ropes
I love it, it's adjustable and simple and comes in lots of fun colors.
If you can find a cheap beaded rope...it will give you good feedback and will wear slowly, and you can use it to learn the basic steps and rhythm.
I find the weighted rope makes it easier to learn because it slows things down a little and the investment made me really commit to jump rope.
Preference for PVC ropes over wire ropes
i just personally like 5" pvc rope from elite SRS (dope ropes cardio 2.0, elite srs 5mm pvc, same same).
Pvc rope is fine though the speed rope just mugs me off all day.

It was purely an overuse break, used probably 45 minutes per day for over 4 or 5 months.
Crossropes is great if you’re looking for a good cardio workout. It has a set and it’s already adjusted to length based on your height.

I love a 6mm PVC. Anything skinnier I can’t feel and my heavier beaded ropes work me out pretty quick.
Jump rope as a cross-training tool for running
I've done a short workout most days, usually consisting of 10 x 2 minute rounds, with 1 minute rest between rounds (so about 30 mins total workout time)
It's a good way to get the fast-twitch muscles firing and ready to take on some more ballistic load.
Lower leg/ foot strength has definitely increased which I think is a function of reduced ground contact time (F=ma^2) and a greater demand on the calves/ feet as the whole body is not working in the same way to absorb impact/ generate force.

Yeah that'll be fine, you'll just want to make sure that you're really busting a gut on the 1min intervals (ideally it would be being out of breath that has you needing to stop, rather than leg fatigue or sweat, to make this a 'HIIT' workout).
