Snoop's Take

The Nordic Ware Formed Angel Food Cake pan is a specialized bakeware designed to produce light, airy angel food cakes as well as pound and coffee cakes with consistent results. Crafted from formed aluminum with a premium nonstick interior, it aims to deliver even heat conduction and effortless release, making it a staple for home bakers. Community sentiment is as colorful as its Twilight Blue finish. One reviewer declares, 'It’s fuckin’ worth it,' echoing a chorus of praise for its reliable performance and beautiful results. At the same time, voices of dissent bemoan the meticulous greasing techniques required and warn against using the wrong spray that can ruin the coating. The overall debate blends unabashed enthusiasm with sardonic caution, as users both celebrate its merits and note its quirks. In conclusion, the pan is recommended for those who value a classic design and impressive baking outcomes, provided they are prepared for a little extra care. Its performance and heritage make it a worthy addition to any kitchen, albeit with a few nuanced challenges that seasoned bakers will appreciate.

It's fuckin' worth it, BUT, if you are lucky enough to be a Minnesotan and can get to St. Louis Park, you absolutely and positively need to go to the Nordic Ware factory outlet and check out their clearance shelf.

Positive Feedback

Just be sure to use the kind with flour, or “perfect release”. Nordic ware doesn’t recommend regular Pam spray, and it can ruin the nonstick finish.

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great value with clearance and thrift store deals

Thank you! This is so helpful! I’m unfortunately in MD so I won’t get those sweet deals, but I’ll check Thrift/clearance stores for a good one.
Reliable performance and beautiful baked results
They are fun and turn out beautiful.
the cast iron ones are supposed to be heirloom quality and outlive you.
Versatile use for baking alternate cake types
I bake pound cakes in my angel food pan all the time with no adjustments to the recipes.
Delivers excellent baked results with proper release preparation
Tried this new Nordic pan...nailed it.
Natural aluminum design is safe for bird owners (requires hand washing)
What you want to look for is PTFE/PFOA free cookware, which I believe this is.
Yes THIS particular set of nordic ware is fine, if you see it says 'natural aluminum' meaning it does NOT have any non-stick coating.
As others have said, the aluminum bakeware is totally bird-safe.
I personally use this brands natural aluminum line.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Nonstick coating can be ruined by using the wrong spray
Just be sure to use the kind with flour, or “perfect release”. Nordic ware doesn’t recommend regular Pam spray, and it can ruin the nonstick finish.
Requires specialized cleaning tools for proper upkeep
For the pan you linked, you would probably need the Nordic ware brush or a toothbrush to get it clean.
Not ideal for baking other types of cakes
I'd rather use the cast iron loaf pans.
Requires meticulous greasing and dusting for successful cake release
A little powdered sugar dusted over it makes it look like a snowy forest 😊 Good luck! 🍀💕
This, needs a sturdier cake.
Only use recipes that use Bundt pans
sugar coating the pan is the only solution
Potential quality control imperfections
I'm surprised it came with these imperfections.
I would not accept it.
I’ve never seen defects like these.
I’ve never seen this on any of the (too many) pans I have.
Lack of uncoated option in Nordic Ware pans
bundt/fluted tube pan without non-stick coating? I've been searching for a fluted/bundt pan *without* any coating and I can't seem to find anything.
In my experience,a tube pan made for angel food cake, not for bundt cake will be aluminum and not non-stick.
Amazon has a glass fluted cake pan, uncoated aluminum mini fluted pans and the Fat Daddios anodized aluminum ring mold.
Requires meticulous greasing technique for proper cake release
It's is ridiculously difficult to get cakes out of these pans if there is a single spot that wasn't correctly sprayed.
That baking spray has saved my tushy more than once!
The tricky part is what you use to grease them.
I did have success using them to shape rice crispie treats through!

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for light colored metal bakeware for even baking
Light colored metal bakeware is better (USA pans). It will bake more evenly.
Nostalgic sentimental baking recipes and keepsakes
I bake the 7-up cake annually for birthdays and holidays since that was *HER* cake she made all the time.
I think this was my mom's pamphlet.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Sugar type debate for cake recipes
I think caster sugar is superfine granulated sugar with no cornstarch.
I thought caster sugar = superfine sugar, and powdered sugar was a different thang?
Yes, superfine sugar (US) = caster sugar (UK), and powdered sugar (US) = icing sugar (UK).

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on vintage pans and removable bottom designs
The removable bottom does make a huge difference, after you cool it upside-down you can take a long flexible or offset spatula to help loosen the sides if you need to.
Debate on ideal pan design (tube pan versus solid bottom)
Angel food cakes really should be made in a tube pan, if you used something with a solid bottom it may not really be possible to get it out neatly.
It was like a shallower tube pan, without releasing sides. Kinda like this one, but with metal sides
You need a two-part pan. That’s it.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
High-end bakeware alternatives receive praise
They’re thick and sturdy and I love them so much.
Casual baking chatter and off-topic comments
Please don't tempt me. I live alone and it's a lot of cake! 😁
There is a spice shop in my town and they had it.
