Snoop's Take

The GOG Paintball Barrel Freak Back A5 Thread by Smart Parts is an essential accessory designed for paintball enthusiasts looking to enhance their shooting performance. This barrel back is specifically engineered to fit Tippmann A-5 threads and can be paired with Freak fronts and inserts for customized shooting experiences. Consumer feedback highlights some notable concerns regarding the GOG Paintball Barrel. Many users have expressed frustration, particularly stating that the "barrel is difficult to disassemble," indicating a potential issue with maintenance and usability. This sentiment suggests that while the product may perform well, its practicality in terms of disassembly could be a drawback for some users. Overall, while the GOG Paintball Barrel Freak Back A5 Thread has its strengths, particularly in compatibility and performance, the difficulty in disassembling the barrel may deter some potential buyers. Thus, it may be recommended for those who prioritize performance over ease of maintenance, but potential buyers should weigh these factors carefully.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General appreciation for the design of paintball markers
Nice lookin ion
Come on back. You'll find lots of returned players like yourself.
You can find parts here and there for an ion to rebuild or fix it pretty easily.
Great barrel even better company.

Discussion on the availability of parts for older Smart Parts markers
They're surprisingly underwhelming barrels, especially from a company directly descended from a once-preeminent barrel maker.
They never had their own brand of inserts, so I'm not sure where those comments come from.

Cautionary Callouts

Nostalgic sentiment towards Smart Parts products
My pride and joy when I used to play, can’t watch it sit in my garage anymore.
Used to play a long time ago and used a smart parts ion. Was a great gun.
Wore out my contract killers DVD, too.
Ion barrels are easy to get, the luxe still uses ion/luxe threads.
Discussion about the history and manufacturing of old barrels
Does this barrel come apart?
I'm definitely thinking you're right about it being a real old AA barrel.
The back half doesn’t seem any heavier than the front. I believe it’s all aluminum.
I noticed a ridge on the inside of this barrel where the two sections meet.
Discussion on the history of Smart Parts patents
IIRC the patent was based on the idea of an electronic switch activating a solenoid and there was (rumors?) SP was very aggressive in their license of the patent for other manufactures but the cost was extremely high.
The Gardner Brothers, owners of Smart Parts (now technically defunct) and now GoG, Shocker Paintball (the new SP), and DLX, are greedy, underhanded bastards.
General appreciation for design of paintball markers
Neither is better. One is longer and probably a little quieter.
