Installation and dual‐screen setup advice for Garmin chartplotters
Make sure whichever unit you select can be installed without causing an issue w/ your other equipment.
If you have room for 2 screens, i'd go with 2 screens. It's pretty sweet to use one for GPS with radar or AIS overlay and the other one with engine readouts and sonar for example.
Smartphone app drawbacks and alternatives for charting
I know there's a smartphone app that's good for charting.
it kills my phone battery and so I don't love it for longer sails.
It's fairly awesome.
