Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Suggestions for better materials for printmaking kits
very nice! i would just go with medium hard brayer instead of soft one, especially since there’s the soft pink stuff in the set.
I would maybe swap out the sketch pad for a better printable paper.

Color suggestions for print backgrounds
If you’re looking for suggestions I like Ultramarine with Gold and people who say it’s garish just have no taste 🤣
Love the detail and color!
instead of the golden block? i think blue-green split fountain would work nice, copper, warm purple.
I really like this. Kinda reminds me of the Mucha 4 Seasons posters
Discussion about using acrylic paint for printmaking
ink and brayer - acrylic paint absolutely isn’t appropriate, generally, inking takes some practice and can be difficult for beginners.
The amount of ppl I've seen trying to use acrylic ink or worse acrylic paint on relief is CRAZY!
anyone using acrylic is doing it wrong.
Discussion about ink usage for fabric printing
I’ve found that I need wayyy more ink than I would for printing on paper.
Thanks! I used a lot more ink and the prints turned out great.
the first pass is always going to be under inked somehow.
just dampening the paper ever so slightly will significantly help the ink transfer.
Suggestions for tools and materials for printmaking
Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie. I love all of your artworks!
it’s a very fun medium to play with :)
The Speedball linoleum cutters are a great beginner tool.
Most people say it's all about the carving. I find it meditative.
Discussion about printmaking tools and techniques
Looks good, I wonder if the sketchbook is really necessary, but it's always nice to have :)
beginner prints can and will look great when the right materials for the job are used.
Discussion about alternative materials for printmaking
I don't need to be able to get super fine details but I was wondering if styrofoam is a good alternative.
Styrofoam works but deteriorates through the print process so don’t plan on a large edition set.
Different materials produce different degrees of detail / different textures, but you can adapt designs to account for that.
Vinyl/lino flooring should work well!
Discussion about using various types of paper for printmaking
What's the value of printing on fancier paper?
Basically these are your all-around good papers that do the job nicely when it comes down to proofs, and maybe editioning.
If you're printing by hand (wooden spoon method or similar) the ink will transfer much better on a lighter weight paper.
The rest is all personal preferences.
Inquiry about composite rubber block printing techniques
Can anyone explain why you'd make a composite instead of a single, complex stamp?

Discussion about finding crafting supplies at auctions
I’ve got a lot to learn.
How amazing to have found all of these lovely things at an auction!
What an amazing find!
What a great find!
Suggestions for teaching printmaking techniques
I recommend pre-printing 3-5 images for them to transfer that are simple and would work well in black and white.
It's great for a first block printing experience, and you don't have to invest in multiple blocks and carving tools.
Discussion about beginner printmaking experiences
You gave me very helpful tips to make me feel successful.
Thankful responses for advice on starting printmaking
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m just starting out and this is so incredibly helpful.
Thank you for this link, I'm very new to this as well and was trying to find the tools for myself.
Discussion about printmaking techniques
Not getting clean, solid prints.
If you're doing this from home and just rubbing the ink off with a spoon or whatever you're gonna have a harder time getting an even print.
Different paper likes different moisture / pressure/ ink quantity etc.
Try Cranfield caligo safe wash relief ink - vegetable oil based so dense.
Discussion about potential income from children's prints
My 3yo uses stamps, can I make money off their prints?

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about minimizing noise in prints
Getting this print cleaned up to this level took a lot of trial and error.
Sometimes the “noise” is what makes a linocut unique in my opinion.
I think that the chatter in the background is part of the charm of a relief print.
I like chatter, personally - but only where I want it lol.
