Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Bright, fog‐free performance from red LED safelights
Super cheap, work in standard US fixtures, extremely bright.
Can confirm they seem bright as hell but don't appear to fog papers.
They're really bright but I don't have issues with fog.
Eventually I bought these and did a 15 minute quarter test, no fogging for me.
Spectral output and color accuracy considerations
it's, umm, "night and day" vs. crappy old vintage safelights.
If I process it and see a shadow of the quarter my lights are too bright.
If you know the spectral range of your bulb, then your LED will work fine.
Ilford says to not use light under 680nm and that red light's spectrum is heavily concentrated around 630nm.
Safelight testing methods and performance insights
Coin test can give you false positive.
It’s far, far brighter than the bicycle rear light I was using previously.
K.I.S. test the original red light in the darkroom for today's printing papers.
You really don't need much power.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Alternative safelight setups and bulb recommendations
I still wrap them in rubylith just in case.
I use this one and it's great.
My darkroom is really freakin' bright.
I agree with all you said, they are the best way to go.
Interplay between developer choices and print tones
The standard safelight is a Kodak OC or equivalent. It’s easier to see what you’re doing under that amber light than a red light.
I just wish to buy ONE lamp and be done with it before having to test several different ones you know?
I use one all the time and love it. I have no paper fogging problems and it is surprisingly bright.
Advice on selecting and experimenting with photo paper types
With Ilford, you'll have a very very consistent product at every paper size.
Adorama paper is reportedly quite cheap and very good.
Learned my lesson. Most likely starting with Adorama paper.
it sucks buying a huge stack of glossy when you prefer the results of pearl.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Film sensitivity precautions when using safelights
Film needs to be loaded in the pitch black.
Film needs to be loaded in total darkness.
You can’t use safelights with film.
You need to load in complete darkness.
Perceived high cost of Adorama darkroom equipment
I remember thinking at the time this was overpriced.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Paper brand evolution and packaging variations
And it works perfectly fine under Jobo safelight.
Jobo safelight like a Maxilux. I use one and it's great.
I'd be surprised if ADOX has a color coating plant, but really no idea.
the base is much thicker than the previous tura batch.
