Snoop's Take

The OKF 150g Grain Mill is a high-speed, 1500W stainless steel spice grinder designed for home use, capable of grinding various dried foods into superfine flour. This versatile appliance is suitable for grains, spices, herbs, and even coffee beans, making it a valuable addition to any kitchen or food processing setup. Consumer feedback highlights the freshness and improved flavor of the flour produced, with users expressing satisfaction by stating, "Love the freshness of the flour." However, some concerns have been raised regarding the fragility of certain plastic components and the limited grinding capacity that necessitates cooling breaks, as noted by a user who questioned its efficiency, saying, "Just curious if it’s worth me investing if it’s not producing much in three minutes." Overall, despite some minor drawbacks, the OKF 150g Grain Mill is highly recommended for those seeking a reliable and efficient grain grinder for home use, especially for users prioritizing flavor and freshness in their cooking.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Milling own wheat improves taste compared to store bought
Once you mill your own wheat you don’t want to start buying that gross store bought wheat.
Discussions on milling efficiency and capacity of different mills
Ultimately will be starting with rustic loaf breads, but eventually may even want to bolt my flour and do cakes or pastries, and pastas.
I just don’t think the attachment is worth it.
I definitely think a stone mill is the way to go.
It’s beyond excellent imo
Discussions on sourcing whole grains
Every time you want to bake, you need to mill flour. For some, that's not a problem. For others... it might be annoying.
Commentary on the design and space of a grain mill home
Five story Grain Mill Home. Your own Tower of Flour.
I really like it especially that top floor with the views to die for.
That was my thoughts. How slow does it have to be to require a chair?
Discussion about various manual grain mills
Does anyone use a manual grain mill and if so which one have you found to work well for things like beans and nuts (turning both into flour)
They're the only two mills that would work with everything we wanted them to *and* produced a high enough quality of flour to make nice bread.
I have no way of getting electricity if power goes out at the moment but I have a gift card with exactly enough for a hand grain mill lol
The only one I know of that can grind virtually anything is the Diamant, but at $1k and nearly 60lbs it is a serious investment.
Users discuss milling techniques and preferences
any love for micro milling machines? need advice on a Proxxon MF70
Discussion on grain mill efficiency and productivity
FS22 - Grain Mill to Bakery - Units per year maximums
The grain mill does 5 cycles per hour, using 150 grain per cycle. It therefore can process 216000 grain per year.
Thanks for laying it all out, it’s next to impossible to notice things like this while playing! This makes me question if investing grain in this process is worth it, seeing as growing the crop takes so long compared to other, more profitable aspects of the game.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users discuss flour options and sourcing wheat berries.
Working with fresh-milled flour is a lot different than working with store-bought bread & AP flours, so there's some practice involved in learning how to get good results with it.
I know this is an older post. Where do you source/order your wheat berries to mill?

Discussion about various milling techniques
I really like this grinder, I like using it, and I like the coffee that it makes.
Discussion about unexpected accumulation of wheat in the game
Grain Mill randomly loaded with tons of Wheat? I’m fairly new to the game.
Grain silo close by any chance?
Means they've still not fixed this bug, I thought they would by now.
Discussion on ancient milling technology and safety
How did folks keep flour mills from exploding all the time? I'm thinking 1100-1200, when lighting might have been predominantly, well, fire-based.
It seems that explosion seems to have been rare; it may well have happened, but it doesn't appear to be a commonly perceived threat.
Do modern mills produce finer flour? I would've thought finer flour means easier to get airborne, and would be more explosive.
I'm struggling a bit to think of what the source of ignition would be in an ancient mill. Did they have open flames inside them?

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
People hold onto grain mills after upgrading
Been looking at FB marketplace Craigslist. Found bread makers at the thrift store but no mills.
Satisfaction with existing grain mills, no upgrade desire
I have never, not even for a second, wanted or felt the need to upgrade, and thats from someone who loves to upgrade everything else.
People recommend various brands of grain mills.
Probably a long shot, but does anyone on here have any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best out of the following home grain mills
Fresh bread every day for less than 10 minute's worth of effort to mill the flour, feed the sourdough starter, and create & bake the dough
Mockmills and KoMos are essentially identical, both designed by Wolfgang Mock.
Milling own flour enhances flavor compared to store-bought
it is in my opinion worth it because you get fresher more flavorful flour of higher varieties (at least in my experience).
Users share experiences with different grain mill brands and models
A consistent experience is available at a lower price point, you just have to be a bit more mindful.
It was expensive but worth it if you plan on using it for years.
I motorised mine so whatever.
Discussion on the pros and cons of milling at home
How much of a difference does milling your own grain make? I've been looking into getting a grain mill since I've heard it results in a lot better of flavor, but I'm not sure if that's just hype and the difference is actually really small.
Thanks for the more in depth breakdown. I'm thinking I'm probably going to get one this winter.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about flavor changes and stone grit in flour.
Any issues with the flavour changing with the stone wheels? Or getting stone grits in the flour?
Interest in the quality of milled flour and potential issues
I have the kitchen aid mill, and I very much like it.
Comparative experiences with various milling methods
I have the kitchen aide attachment mill and I love it.
I have a Komo Mio, works great for wheat, rye, barley, lentils, millets and rice.
Nostalgia for old grain mills
Snapped some photos of the grain mills before they’re gone for good. Gonna miss seeing them on my morning commute.
Thanks for documenting it. Once they’re gone, few will even remember they were there.
My dad managed the mill for around 10 years up until his death in 2012. It was a dusty old asbestos shitbox held together by baling wire and string, but it managed to still operate.
I'm so nostalgic for the little amongus imposter tag that was on it in early 2020. Everyone was stuck inside playing it at the time, it felt symbolic almost.
Concerns about inconsistencies in grain crush from different suppliers
I've become a bit annoyed about the inconsistencies in the crush of grain from different suppliers, my last brew the grain was really floury and I had to struggle with poor flow.
I wanted something that would reliably crush. The monster is a little bit more money but worth it.
If you set the rollers too close, the grain will dance on top of the rollers and fail to feed.
